Being a member of the Sorrento Volunteer Fire Department has a different meaning for each person in our family but for most is means dedication to the community we live in. As both a group and individually we strive to provide the best customer service we can. With that we invite individuals to become a member of our family. Anyone can be an Associate Member and Active members and Juniors must live within one road mile of our response boundaries.
Non responders assist the organization with fundraisers, building and vehicle maintenance, hydrant flow test, hose testing, conducting pre incident plans, and office and clerical work. Associate members can assist and support the department by providing special skills such as welding, carpentry, electrical, vehicle mechanics or computing. By utilizing our members we are able to cut cost and utilize the extra funds for the purchase of goods and service in other areas.
Members of the department that respond to emergency and non-emergency incidents. Members are trained in firefighting, emergency medical care, hazardous materials response, vehicle extrication and disaster response. We have some members that only participate in the medical responses but still respond to structure fires in case of an injury and to work in our rehabilitation area. Some members may desire to assist by providing traffic control at incidents and not participating in the actual mitigation. Any level of response can be utilized.
Students ages 14 to 17 years of age wishing to obtain some skills training in emergency response while attending school. Juniors must maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and attendance in school to be eligible to stay in the program. They will receive training in firefighting and medical emergency response. Juniors are allowed to respond to calls on a limited basis with their parents or guardians permission. Juniors are under no circumstances exposed to situations involving severe trauma, deaths, drug and alcohol related assaults, or hazardous materials. It is our goal to train and prepare young people for careers in emergency services and hopefully to continue to volunteer for their local department as they continue on in life.

Go to the files tab and download and print the "Membership Application Form" indicate at the top which type of membership you desire and fill in the rest and make sure you sign the application along with witnesses where required. Place the application in a sealed envelope and mail to P.O. Box 250, Sorrento, La. 70778 Attn: President or bring it by the fire station located at 8096 Main St. You may also come to the station and fill one out.
Application should be turn in at least two weeks prior to our membership meeting to allow time to run background checks and contact references.
